FBI Investigating North Korean Remote IT Staffer Working for U.S. Agency
Litigation attorney Megan Mocho was quoted in a Federal News Network article discussing an FBI investigation into a North Korean remote IT worker who allegedly obtained employment supporting a federal agency. The article examined the broader risks posed by fraudulent remote workers and the challenges organizations face in identifying individuals who use false identities to gain access to sensitive systems and data. Megan noted that companies that do not properly vet remote workers handling sensitive information may face a range of data security, privacy and False Claims Act risks, underscoring the importance of strong hiring and verification controls.

"My biggest question is certainly understanding what, if any, red flags were available to be caught because we need to train ourselves to be vigilant about these red flags."
