Legal 500 Ranks Holland & Knight Among Top Firms in Construction for 2012
MIAMI – June 26, 2012 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that it has been ranked as one of the nation's tier-one law firms for construction law in the Legal 500 United States 2012 edition. The firm is awarded "highest marks for service and industry knowledge" by clients, who also praise its "very good response times" and "strength in depth."
The firm has more than 60 lawyers with construction experience. The team's work encompasses signature urban and institutional developments, resort and mixed-use projects, major industrial facilities, power generation facilities, bridge construction and other major infrastructure projects.
Stephen Shapiro, the leader of the national practice group, is heralded as an "excellent trial lawyer" in the directory. The Legal 500 also acknowledges Mr. Shapiro's recent success in defeating a construction surety’s $27 million case against a client. The case, involving 36 parties in federal court litigation, was resolved through a series of settlements with a general contractor and several subcontractors, and the total amount of the defeated claim and affirmative recovery by the owner exceeded $40 million.
Ben Subin, who "knows the construction industry inside out," is also recognized for being "excellent, timely and thorough." He led the team's representation of a manufacturer in the litigation and resolution of a $600 million dispute arising from a wind turbine purchase agreement. The dispute involved highly technical claims and counterclaims concerning multiple projects.
