TEL AVIV and MIAMI (April 30, 2018) – Holland & Knight is proud to announce its partnership with Volcani International, the non-profit arm of Israel's prestigious Volcani Institute, and Start-Up Nation Central to launch an international Women in AgriTech group. Volcani International works to increase the impact of the Volcani Institute and leverage Israeli agricultural expertise and technology worldwide. Start-Up Nation Central is an organization dedicated to the Israeli innovation ecosystem.

The Women in AgriTech group was created to provide a networking opportunity for women in the agritech field and empower them to advance professionally. The initiative is co-led by Holland & Knight Partner Meital Stavinsky, who has advised innovative Israeli businesses that seek to enter the U.S. market or expand their operations in the U.S. for more than 15 years.

"Women were at the forefront of agriculture and food innovation decades ago when Israel was first established, but somehow their roles in leadership have diminished over time," said Ms. Stavinsky. "The current situation reflects the same gender imbalance found globally. However, we can help change this by empowering more women to succeed in this important and rapidly growing industry."

Women in AgriTech will hold its first meeting on May 8 during the AgriTech Israel 2018 Conference, which runs from May 8-10. The meeting will be an intimate gathering of female scientists, business people and those from the NGO/public sector. The topics of the first meeting will be:

  • How can women be encouraged to join the field of AgriTech?
  • How can female leadership in the field be advanced?

"Great efforts are being made across the tech space to build an equal opportunity ecosystem, and we cannot allow for AgriTech to be an exception. We hope that this group will promote the role of women in AgriTech by raising the visibility of women in the field and equipping them with the tools to find professional success," said Danielle Abraham, executive director of Volcani International.
