Carlos Ochoa Named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in Latin America by Chambers & Partners

MEXICO CITY (December 18, 2019) – Holland & Knight Partner Carlos Ochoa was named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by Chambers & Partners at the publisher's Diversity & Inclusion Awards: Latin America held in Buenos Aires on December 5.

The Chambers Diversity & Inclusion Awards celebrate in-house legal teams and law firms who are furthering the advancement of diversity and inclusion across Latin America. The awards also shine a spotlight on role models and trailblazers in the areas of pro bono and corporate social responsibility.

Mr. Ochoa's outstanding pro bono contributions are longstanding and wide ranging. He has led the pro bono activities of Holland & Knight's Mexico City office for many years and has supported organizations such as Inspiring Girls Mexico, a new nonprofit that empowers young women to become future leaders, and the Asociación Mexicana de Lucha Contra el Cancer A.C., a nonprofit fighting against cancer. He also oversaw the firm's support of the Mexico City LGBT+ Pride celebration. The firm worked with the local government to organize numerous cultural and recreational events and sponsored the Noche con Orgullo event, which kicks off the festival.

In 2017, Mr. Ochoa also provided pro bono representation in several cases involving victims of the Mexico City earthquake.

Mr. Ochoa focuses his practice on energy, infrastructure, real estate and corporate services. He has more than 12 years of experience working in the energy sector. He has extensive experience in the areas of electricity, oil, gas, renewable energy and government procurement. He is also well versed in public bids and contracts, regulatory matters and project finance. Mr. Ochoa is recognized as a top lawyer in his field by Legal 500 and IFLR 1000.
