No Plans To Put All Tax Court Docs Online, Chief Judge Says

Tax attorney Abbey Garber spoke with Law360 about the lack of plans for U.S. Tax Court documents to be made publicly available online because the court has an obligation to protect sensitive taxpayer information. Mr. Garber said he had seen countless cases in Tax Court filed by pro se taxpayers, and many of them failed to redact sensitive information. Pro se petitioners may remember to redact a Social Security number on the first page but forget to redact it on another page, or they may fail to redact bank account numbers on any exhibits they file, so it is understandable why the Tax Court is sensitive about that information being public, he said.
