Classification Challenges for SaaS, Software, Algorithms and Emerging Technologies

International Trade attorney Daniel Goren will speak at the Society for International Affairs' 2026 Spring Virtual Advanced Conference on the panel "Classification Challenges for SaaS, Software, Algorithms and Emerging Technologies." The session will examine how export controls, sanctions and other trade measures are being used to advance national security, foreign policy and industrial strategy goals, specifically in the realm of emerging technology. It will home in on the challenges companies face in classifying artificial intelligence (AI), software as a services (Saas) and other systems for purposes of trade compliance as well as offer practitioner insights on the intersection of trade policy and emerging technologies.
