Healthcare Transactions attorney John Saran joined an episode of the Becker Private Equity & Business Podcast to talk about his practice and military service. Mr. Saran described his path to a career in healthcare law and service as a Reserve Judge Advocate General (JAG) in the U.S. Coast Guard before moving on to trends in the healthcare industry, in particular federal and state scrutiny of private equity in healthcare. He touched on developments at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as well as actions from state legislatures to impose reporting requirements, corporate practice of medicine regulations and noncompete restrictions. Mr. Saran commented that these regulatory efforts have prompted stakeholder involvement to engage lawmakers and explain the implications of proposed bills on providers and firms.
