Concern Over Plain Packs

Panelists attending a session at the International Trademark Association's annual meeting discussed plain packaging and expressed their concern regarding the impact of standardized packaging on trademarks and trademark owners.

Intellectual Property Partner Paul Kilmer said: "Plain packaging is the most restrictive subset of standardized packaging. The government takes over the whole pack and dictates how-or if-the trademark can be used."
