Legal Committee Video Conference: Live from Washington DC and New York! - What’s the View from Washington DC and What is Next?

Partners Christopher Armstrong, Kara Ward, Ronald Oleynik, Richard Smith and Senior Policy Advisor Scott Mason joined a video conference with AMCHAM's Legal Committee to share their insight, and discuss key issues facing international companies and AMCHAM members during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Ward spoke about the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that offers economic relief to small and medium sized enterprises to fight the impact of COVID-19 and explained key provisions of the Act. Mr. Armstrong spoke about Congress's legislative agenda, including civil justice reforms, appropriations, and the House's infrastructural package. Mr. Oleynik spoke about the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), President Trump’s strategic economy policy and sanctions, customs, export control which has a focus on technology, and trade policies. Mr. Smith mentioned that COVID-19 has resulted in a significant slowdown in local Mergers & Acquisitions activity and there have been regulatory delays, and delays in obtaining third party consent. Mr. Mason, who works closely with the Trump Administration, gave insights on the 2020 elections and potential impacts on businesses internationally.
