Pemex Goes for Fracking

Reforma

Energy attorney Gabriel Ruiz was cited in an article published by Reforma about the use of fracking by Pemex in Mexico. Even though Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador opposes this technique, the company considerably increased its request for resources in its 2022 budget to take advantage of it. Mr. Ruiz pointed out that fracking has been used for many years throughout the world, and that there is no law prohibiting it in Mexico.

"After the natural gas contingency this past February, it could be that this decision to increase the budget to amp up the national natural gas production and perhaps stop importing from Texas, that could be one of the motivations," he highlighted.
