The Treasury 'Scares'; Collects 14% More
Tax attorney Mario Barrera was interviewed by Reforma on the strategy of the Mexican Tax Administration Service (SAT) of using the "Compliance with obligations" and "Falls in collection" programs. According to Mr. Barrera, this initiative helps the treasury detect irregularities of taxpayers in their payments.
"The advantage is that since it is not an audit, in the event that a taxpayer detects an irregularity, he can pay with surcharges, but not with fines," he said. "Not attending to an invitation letter can lead to a suspension and even cancellation of digital stamps, which makes it a very effective collecting tool."
