IEPS Refund Increased by 10 Times

Tax attorney Mario Barrera was interviewed by Reforma about the increase in refunds for the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) executed by the Tax Administration Service (SAT) in May. This was 10 times higher than last year's period, considering that in May 2022 the amount reached 11 thousand 745 million pesos, while in the same period of 2021, it reached one thousand 97 million. Mr. Barrera said this is because the federal government is not currently collecting this tax, since it implemented a 100 percent stimulus as a measure to control gas prices.
"The IEPS is not being charged because of the high prices of gasoline, so that is causing higher amounts of taxes to be returned," he said.
