Ecopetrol Will Reinforce Its Work in the United States, Brazil and Mexico
Energy attorney Inés Elvira Vesga was interviewed by El Colombiano about Ecopetrol's new investment plans. The oil company designated 28% of its investment to the exploration and production (E&P) of oil and natural gas in the United States, Brazil and Mexico for 2023. Ms. Vesga commented on the contrast between the new government's policies toward E&P activities and the increase in Ecopetrol's investments, as well as the importance of taking advantage of natural resources in Colombia in order to maintain its energy self-sufficiency.
"It is paradoxical because the motivation of an anti-extractivist policy is to take care of the environment and its efforts in decarbonization. If operations abroad are environmentally sustainable, those carried out in Colombia to maintain our energy self-sufficiency should also be considered as so. The country must extract all its resources while it has them," she said.
