Green Bonds, an Alternative for Colombia

Financial Services attorney Juan Felipe Fontecha was mentioned in an article published by Portafolio about green bonds as a financial alternative for environmental projects in Colombia. Mr. Fontecha explained the requirements to issue green bonds in the public securities market, including authorization from the Financial Superintendency. He also commented on some of the challenges around certifying that green bonds effectively meet international standards.
“In this authorization process, the Financial Superintendency will validate, among other matters, that the green bonds to be issued comply with the principles of use of funds, evaluation and selection of projects, management of funds, reports and external verification,” he said.
