More States Weigh Curbs on Private Equity Healthcare Investments

WSJ Pro Private Equity

Healthcare Transactions attorney John Saran was quoted in a WSJ Pro Private Equity article reviewing a surge in state legislative proposals to regulate private equity investments in the healthcare industry. The article also cited Holland & Knight's recent client alert that he co-authored with attorneys Bill Katz, Jacob Barrera, Tom Stephenson and Emily Duncan analyzing the proposed legislation, among other notable sector trends.

The WSJ piece explores bills introduced by six state legislatures to limit or increase transparency regarding corporate healthcare mergers, with Indiana and Connecticut focusing particularly on private equity. Mr. Saran noted that though none of these bills are close to being enacted, their introduction reflects a growing concern over the impact of private equity-led medical transactions on both sides of the aisle.

"The legislative focus on healthcare consolidation is a bipartisan issue," he explained.
