In the Loop: Closing the Loop for 2025

Private Funds CFO

Healthcare Transactions attorney John Saran was quoted in a Private Funds CFO article reviewing how the private funds industry has benefited from a more deregulatory climate in Washington while facing intensifying scrutiny at the state level, particularly around private equity investment in healthcare. He noted that as federal agencies pull back on certain rules and enforcement priorities, a growing number of states are advancing legislation that expands oversight of healthcare transactions and, in some cases, imposes limits on private fund-backed structures and the corporate practice of medicine. Mr. Saran cautioned that this momentum could accelerate and create a patchwork compliance environment for firms operating across multiple jurisdictions.

"I would warn against taking a backseat for what might come after this," he said, "because, if there's 10 new bills proposed next year and five of them look like Oregon's and five of them look like California's, it would be significant for the industry and anyone with national platforms."
