What Explains the Surge in Business Activity at the Start of the Year Amid Electoral Uncertainty?

Bogotá Executive Partner Enrique Gómez-Pinzón was interviewed by Revista Semana about the momentum behind operations, expansions and strategic transactions in Colombia at the start of 2026, despite electoral uncertainty, fiscal pressures and high interest rates. Mr. Gómez-Pinzón explained that many of these transactions are driven by long-term business decisions and structural market trends, which helps explain why deal activity remains strong even in the current political environment. He also noted that investor appetite remains steady, albeit with a more selective approach and increased focus on risk management and contractual protections.

"In hydrocarbons, for example, recent geopolitical developments, particularly in regions such as Venezuela and the Middle East, have generated greater interest and activity in energy assets, driving strategic decisions that do not depend on the local political calendar," he said.
