Affordable Housing Push Persists Despite Elevated Costs
Real Estate attorney Barton Morrison was quoted in a Law360 article about the continued call for affordable housing development even as construction costs remain high. The article explored how developers, builders and public sector stakeholders are navigating ongoing pressures tied to labor shortages, tariffs, supply chain disruptions and regulatory hurdles, while also considering strategies such as alternative contracting approaches, technology integration and public-private partnerships to help projects move forward. Mr. Morrison commented on the challenges facing the market and the industry's measured optimism as it works toward solutions.
"I do think there's a bit of mixed optimism with realism," he said. "When I speak to builders, I'm not hearing from them, just, 'Wow, this is just awful.' Nothing like that. I'm just hearing, 'This is challenging, this is a bit harder.' But there is also a view that they think things can get better and probably will."
