ATLANTA – February 5, 2013 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that J. Allen Maines has joined the firm's Atlanta office as a partner in its Litigation Practice Group. His arrival continues the strategic expansion of the firm's Atlanta office and its litigation practice. Mr. Maines concentrates on major commercial litigation and has served as lead trial counsel to some of the world's largest entities in controversies of major significance. He joins the firm from Paul Hastings, where he held a variety of leadership positions and is a former co-chair of the firm's Global Litigation Department.
Mr. Maines has extensive domestic and cross-border international experience in securities and shareholder litigation, internal investigations, intellectual property matters, mass tort litigation, consumer and privacy issues, and disputes between competitors, including misappropriation and unfair competition suits. He also provides advice with respect to mergers and acquisitions, including both friendly and hostile acquisitions, frequently handling post-acquisition escrow and warranty disputes.
“Allen Maines is an exceptional trial lawyer and well respected as a leader in the community,” said Robert Highsmith, executive partner of Holland & Knight's Atlanta office. “He is joining a stellar team of litigators and will add enormous value to our clients and office.”
“Allen's arrival comes at a time when we are focusing on growth,” said Highsmith. “Holland & Knight attracted almost 30 lateral partners nationwide last year and we hope to build on that momentum in Atlanta during 2013.”
“I'm very pleased to be continuing my practice with Holland & Knight,” said Mr. Maines. "The firm's national and international platform, steady leadership, and commitment to client service made this an attractive option for me and my clients. The Atlanta office has great energy and collegiality and I look forward to helping the office grow.”
Mr. Maines is recognized as a top lawyer in the area of commercial litigation by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and Georgia Trend's Legal Elite. He also has served as co-chair of the International Bar Association's Securities Law Committee, as chairman of the board of directors for the Georgia chapter of the March of Dimes, and on several charitable boards.
Mr. Maines received his B.A. degree from Taylor University and his J.D. degree from the University of Florida. He is also an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta.
With more than 420 lawyers, Holland & Knight's Litigation Section is one of the largest practices in the country. Former judges, federal prosecutors and regulatory officials form a key part of the group, which handles multi-million-dollar class actions, securities litigation, product liability, mass tort cases, and white-collar criminal defense. In 2012, BTI Consulting Group named Holland & Knight a "Litigation Powerhouse" in the area of commercial litigation, based on feedback from general counsel. The firm's litigation practice was also recently recognized in The Financial Times Innovative Lawyers special issue.
