Holland & Knight Expands Real Estate Practice with Addition of Leading Team

MIAMI (January 18, 2022) – Daniel Faust, Adam Zwecker and Jason Vaupen have joined Holland & Knight as partners in its Miami office, adding a nationally regarded transactional real estate practice to the firm's Real Estate Section, one of the largest in the country. All three were previously partners at Akerman, where they received numerous accolades, including repeated recognition by The Best Lawyers in America for Real Estate Law. The partners are joined by a dedicated team of legal professionals, including Associates Kazarae Lowe from Akerman and Lauren Swanson from Katten Muchin Rosenman.

Mr. Faust, Mr. Zwecker and Mr. Vaupen represent some of the nation's top private equity funds, institutional sponsors and operators, developers and family offices in connection with large-scale development, purchase and sale, joint venture, financing and leasing transactions throughout the United States.

The team's practice is broad in substantive and geographic scope, ranging from mixed-use hospitality projects and design-focused adaptive reuse development in South Florida to nationwide programmatic acquisition platforms.

"Dan, Adam and Jason possess sophisticated practices that will be a tremendous extension of our existing real estate platform and will naturally complement our broader transactional capabilities," said Joe Guay, the leader of the firm's national Real Estate Section. "Their collective experience, client relationships and deep ties to South Florida's booming real estate market are a perfect fit and will serve to further solidify Holland & Knight's position as a leading real estate practice group nationally and in South Florida for many years to come."

"Holland & Knight was especially attractive to us because of its deep national real estate bench, history and presence in Florida and, most significantly, desire to back the continued growth of our team and success of our entrepreneurial practice," Mr. Faust said. "In addition, the firm's large geographic footprint – which now includes an expanded presence after its recent merger with Thompson & Knight – will help support our work for clients in Texas and similar flourishing real estate markets throughout the United States."

"Joining Holland & Knight represents a unique opportunity to align ourselves with a large and dynamic firm that prioritizes its national real estate practice but also has a nuanced and intimate understanding of the South Florida legal landscape," Mr. Zwecker said.

"We are experiencing one of the most opportunistic real estate cycles in the past several decades. The pairing of highly favorable economic conditions with evolving consumer needs is driving an unprecedented change in how people buy and use real estate. We are excited to continue guiding our clients through this transforming landscape at Holland & Knight," Mr. Vaupen added.
