Overview
Sam Megally is a state and local tax attorney in Holland & Knight's Dallas office. Mr. Megally practices nationally, focusing on tax planning and controversy matters involving income tax, sales tax, franchise tax and property tax in Texas and beyond.
Mr. Megally regularly counsels clients in state and local tax planning matters, including in connection with mergers and acquisitions and commercial transactions, and he has also represented taxpayers in economic incentive negotiations in taxing jurisdictions across the United States.
As part of his controversy practice, Mr. Megally has extensive experience representing taxpayers in tax disputes, including administrative proceedings and litigation against the Texas comptroller, departments of revenue in other states and local tax jurisdictions in and outside of Texas.
Mr. Megally has also worked extensively on tax-related legislative representations in Texas and other states. He has substantial experience representing taxpayers in a broad range of industries, including e-commerce and traditional brick and mortar retailers, oil and gas and alternative energy companies, real estate developers and investors, travel and tourism companies, air carriers and private aircraft operators, hospitals, life sciences companies, pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, financial services institutions and investment advisors, and construction and manufacturing companies.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Megally was an attorney at a global law firm.
Previously, Mr. Megally served as an intern for the Honorable Priscilla Owen of the Texas Supreme Court, as well as an intern for Ted Cruz when he served as Solicitor General of Texas.
