Overview

Eugenio Grageda Nuñez is an attorney in Mexico City who focuses his practice in the areas of international tax and estate tax planning. Mr. Grageda is experienced in dealing with the tax aspects of corporate reorganizations, investment vehicles and financing structures at a domestic and international level. His practice also concentrates in the succession and patrimonial planning of high-net-worth individuals, financial instruments and value-added tax (VAT) matters.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Grageda held positions at Mexican tax law firms, at a New York law firm, and at the Mexican Revenue Service. During his practice he has participated in the representation of Mexican companies and individuals investing and doing business abroad and foreign clients doing the same in Mexico and Latin America.

Representative Experience

  • Provided tax advice to an Irish entity on the purchase of several entities as part of a carve-out of a major Latin American airline
  • Participated in the representation of a Chinese/German robotics company regarding the reorganization of its operations in Mexico
  • Provided tax advice to U.S. oil company regarding the winding up of several permanent establishments in Mexico
  • Created the tax structure for the development of a private solar energy project in the north of Mexico, which reached an investment amount of more than US$40 million
  • Participated in the representation of an Israeli entity in its acquisition of a Mexican pharmaceutical company
  • Provided tax advice to a French gas company to best structure its investments and presence in Mexico
  • Provided tax advice to a U.S. real estate entity in the development and operation of hotels and other immovables in Mexico
  • Represented Mexico's largest "state productive company" and its subsidiaries in several financing structures and cross-border planning
  • Provided regular tax assistance to a Venezuelan oil company with respect to international tax matters, arbitration proceedings and the formation of special purpose vehicles (SPVs)
  • Represented high-net-worth individuals with financial assets and family abroad in the development of estate planning structures and the use of different investment vehicles without Mexico
  • Assisted taxpayers in exchange of information matters, including reporting obligations under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Foreign Bank Account Report (FBAR) and Common Reporting Standard (CRS), and regularization procedures before the tax authorities
  • Participated in the development of an assets acquisition plan by the issuance of bonds governed by Islam Law (Sukuk Al-Ijara) for a "state productive company" in Mexico

  • Represented Buenavista Renewables, a Texas-based renewable energy developer, in a cross-border $30 million refinancing of a solar park project located in Chihuahua, Mexico
