Healthcare attorney Shalyn Watkins will be a featured speaker during an American Health Law Association (AHLA) webinar about corporate practice of medicine (CPOM) enforcement in California and beyond. Recent enforcement actions from Attorney General Rob Bonta suggest a new focus on examining whether and how professional corporation (PC) and management service organization (MSO) models comply with California's CPOM restrictions. Simultaneously, at the federal level, lawmakers introduced a bill that would establish the first nationwide CPOM regulations and specifically limit PC/MSO arrangements. With increased attention by both state and federal government, healthcare providers and other parties should reevaluate existing arrangements and planned transactions. During this program, Shalyn will identify CPOM enforcement and rulemaking initiatives in different states, walk participants through existing CPOM structural frameworks and outline management fee methodologies that comply with current jurisdictional requirements. She will also cover enforcement risks and the potential transactional effects that the uptick in regulatory and legislative activity could hold.
