Commodity Futures Trading Commission Moves to Set Voluntary Carbon Market Standards

Public Policy & Regulation attorneys Halley Townsend and Alexander Holtan co-authored an article featured in the Journal of Federal Agency Action. In this article the authors examine the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) proposed guidance on the listing of Voluntary Carbon Credit (VCC) derivatives on CFTC-regulated exchanges. While the CFTC does not have the statutory authority to directly impose standards on the VCC market, it can indirectly impose standards via the exchanges it regulates.
