New Guidelines on Corporate Responsibility in the Mining, Energy and Oil Sector in Colombia
Environmental attorney Janine Acosta wrote a column for The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law's (FNREL) Latin America Mineral and Energy Law Newsletter about new guidelines issued by Colombia's Superintendence of Corporations on corporate responsibility reporting requirements for companies in the mining, energy and oil sectors. Ms. Acosta reviews External Circular No. 100-000010 of 2023, which aims to promote sustainability and corporate social responsibility. It outlines which companies are obligated to implement a Corporate Sustainability Program and prepare a sustainability report disclosing activities, risks, opportunities and measurement methods across environmental, social, governance, economic and financial impact areas per international standards. The circular also establishes a May 2025 deadline for companies in the mining-energy, manufacturing, construction, tourism and telecommunications industries to meet certain income/asset thresholds.
