Biofuels, Another Alternative to Achieve Energy Transformation

Energy attorney José Vicente Zapata was mentioned in a Portafolio article about the role of biofuels in Colombia's energy transition. The article highlighted record biodiesel sales of 700,000 tons in 2023 and a 1.4 percent increase in domestic demand for blended diesel. Mr. Zapata commented that more production, in combination with the increase in diesel prices, means that consumers can compare competitive alternatives with better results.

"The demand figures for biodiesel have been growing in recent years and various companies have announced to increase the 'bio' component in their service stations, and several companies have announced the possibility of bringing 'flexfuel' vehicles to Colombia, which offer capacity for the use of biofuels," he said.
