Holland & Knight Advises Hawaiian Airlines in Sustainable Aviation Fuel Sales Agreement with Gevo

DENVER (April 17, 2023) – Holland & Knight represented Hawaiian Airlines in its agreement with biofuel company Gevo Inc. to purchase 50 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel over five years. The deal was announced March 23, 2023.

Gevo expects to supply the sustainable aviation fuel from a facility to be constructed in the midwestern United States and begin deliveries to Hawaiian’s gateway cities in California starting in 2029. The fuel sales agreement is subject to certain conditions precedent, including Gevo developing, financing and constructing the facility to produce the sustainable aviation fuel contemplated by the agreement.

Honolulu-based Hawaiian Airlines is Hawaii’s largest and longest-serving airline and is a subsidiary of Hawaiian Holdings Inc.

Gevo, based in Englewood, Colorado, has a mission of transforming renewable energy and carbon energy into energy-dense liquid hydrocarbons.
