The U.S. GENIUS Act: Implications for Latin America and Beyond
Holland & Knight hosted an informative webinar on the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act (GENIUS Act) and the implications and opportunities for foreign payment stablecoin issuers, as well as foreign entities that provide products or services related to stablecoins. Attorneys Camilo Gantiva Hidalgo, Peter Hardy, Christopher Phillips and Maria Camila Gamez explored how the GENIUS Act will specifically affect businesses in Latin America and explained how the new law provides a potential path for payment stablecoin issuers that are supervised by a regulator of a foreign country to issue payment stablecoins in the U.S. They additionally compared the GENIUS Act to existing Latin American crypto regulatory regimes and pointed out regulatory obligations to keep in mind, from economic sanctions to anti-money laundering compliance.
