Mining, Waiting for Clear Signs to Advance Projects
Energy attorney Milton Montoya was cited in an article published by Portafolio that analyzes the progress of mining projects in Colombia. The Colombian government has signaled that the mining sector will play a fundamental role in the country's energy transition, in particular the exploitation of strategic minerals, such as copper, nickel and zinc. Because of that, the National Development Plan includes a series of articles related to mining activity. However, Mr. Montoya commented that mining projects have not advanced in this regard, because public policy announcements have not led to "products to generate discussion." Furthermore, he suggested that the government should clarify whether there will be new rounds of contract awards and, if so, what contract mechanisms would be used.
