The Legal Challenges to Consider with the Guajira Energy Transition Agreement

Energy attorney Inés Elvira Vesga was interviewed by Asuntos Legales about the Guajira energy transition agreement that the Colombian government recently signed. Ms. Vesga highlighted that the agreement's objectives include the integral development of communities, strengthening of energy security in the country and a reduction in the effects of climate change. The agreement also seeks to address social conflicts, but Ms. Vesga pointed out that it lacks concrete actions in this regard.

"Concrete actions are not seen in the agreement, it seems more of a multiparty recognition of the existence of a conflict, and it outlines generalities that are already considered in binding instruments, beginning with the Political Constitution as a guarantee of social, economic and environmental rights, participation in the communities and social investment," she explained.
