Will a World Bank Loan Aid Colombia’s Climate Resiliency?
Energy attorney Claro Manuel Cotes was featured in a Q&A with the Inter-American Dialogue's Energy Advisor about a World Bank loan aimed at boosting Colombia's climate resiliency and renewable energy initiatives. Mr. Cotes highlighted that the loan aligns with key projects Colombia needs to meet its environmental objectives, such as investments in solar plants, offshore wind ventures and green hydrogen development. Additionally, he noted that while Colombia's renewable energy sector has progressed, it faces challenges because of bureaucratic hurdles in obtaining permits. He also emphasized that the loan could catalyze growth by enhancing energy security, attracting private investment, creating jobs and fostering innovation.
Mr. Cotes commented on the importance of effective governance, saying, "The government must provide clear information to local communities, educating them about renewable energies' benefits for their environment."
