When the Machine Decides: Inside the Legal Battle over AI in Autonomous Systems

Aviation policy and regulation attorney Katie Inman was featured in an Autonomy Global article recapping her Law-Tech Connect panel examining the growing accountability gap between rapidly advancing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the legal frameworks governing them. As one of five panelists representing the aviation, defense, technology and government sectors, Katie discussed how companies can address compliance and liability concerns surrounding autonomous systems. Drawing on her experience at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and as former general counsel to the Florida Attorney General, she advised organizations not to wait for a comprehensive AI regulatory framework to emerge. Instead, she encouraged companies to look to the FAA's established safety assurance procedures, saying regulators have already provided guidance on the risk management, safety and accountability measures they expect from industry participants.
