Mi Casa Ya Leaves a Gap: The New Government Should Rebuild Confidence

Real Estate attorney Esteban García Jimeno was mentioned in Revista Dinero's special lawyers edition commenting on the future of Colombia's housing policy under the new government. The dismantling of the Mi Casa Ya program, which offered subsidies to finance social interest (VIS) and priority interest (VIP) housing, created uncertainty for buyers, investors and construction companies, and one of the first decisions for the new administration will be the fate of the program and rules governing these payments. Esteban called for a transition regime to protect families that initiated purchases under the old rules and highlighted the risk that the lack of a central system with common regulations will lead to distinct regional programs that make it difficult for the private sector to participate at a national level.
