Overview
Matt Rosenbaum is an international trade and white collar defense attorney in Holland & Knight's Century City and Washington, D.C., offices and a member of the firm's National Security & Defense Industry Group. A former federal prosecutor and senior official at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Mr. Rosenbaum advises clients on trade compliance counseling, internal investigations and white collar defense, with a particular focus on matters involving export controls, economic sanctions and anti-money laundering.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Rosenbaum served at the Commerce Department as senior counsel in the counsel's office for the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). In that role, he directed civil export controls enforcement across BIS's western regional offices, covering all companies based in Silicon Valley and Southern California. He handled all aspects of many of the most significant enforcement matters at BIS, including evaluating corporate compliance programs and voluntary self-disclosures, as well as negotiating administrative settlements. He also led parallel investigations with the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
Before joining the Commerce Department, Mr. Rosenbaum served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in Los Angeles. As an AUSA, he prosecuted complex financial crimes and international cartels and led a wide range of sensitive cross-border investigations. He has also served as senior deputy associate counsel at the White House and as special advisor to the Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence in the office overseeing OFAC and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
Earlier in his career, Mr. Rosenbaum worked in the litigation department at an international law firm and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Thomas P. Griesa of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
