Energy & Natural Resources Partner Inés Elvira Vesga participated in a Q&A with The Dialogue's Energy Advisor analyzing the dual impact of high energy costs on Colombia's economy by straining household finances and reducing corporate profitability. She underlined the need to balance efforts to lower electricity costs with maintaining financial stability to avoid negative effects on service quality and sector investment. Ms. Vesga also discussed how policies such as those proposed by Colombia President Gustavo Petro to reduce energy tariffs could support environmental goals if paired with initiatives to encourage diverse energy generation projects for system reliability.

"There are many factors hindering the economy, not only energy prices. Political and legal uncertainty is also affecting economic growth," she said.
